The Y Panda cigar is named after Linxu “Panda” Yan, a Chinese native who left his home at the age of 16, eventually landing the unlikely position of intern for Luciano Cigars at the company's factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. Steeping himself in all aspects of tobacco and cigar production, Yan was able to co-blend the Y Panda cigar (named in his honor) with Luciano Meirelles after 14 months of mentorship. The cigar uses an Ecuadorian Corojo '98 wrapper, a double binder of Brazilian Arapiraca and Ecuadorian Sumatra, and fillers of all-Nicaraguan tobacco, including viso from Jalapa and seco from Estelí. This is advertised as a yin and yang combination, using stronger leaves from a sweet region (Jalapa) and softer leaves from a spicier region (Estelí).
