Foundation Cigar Co. fills out their portfolio with a pair of cigars under the Aksum line (formerly known as Metapa), including the Aksum Maduro and Aksum Claro. The cigars are named for the Kingdom of Aksum, which is believed to be the resting place for the Ark of the Covenant. As such, the former imagery of Rubén Darío (on the Metapa band) was replaced with that of Ras Makonnen, father of Haile Selassie (who is pictured on The Tabernacle band). This allows the cigars to fit within the Biblical/Ethiopian themes of former Foundation releases, including The Tabernacle and Menelik. With the Aksum Maduro, the cigars feature an Ecuadorian Sumatra maduro wrapper, a Connecticut Broadleaf binder, and all-Nicaraguan fillers from the Estelí and Jalapa regions.

Great cigar, dark, earthy and full bodied with roasted coffee and sweet dried fruit. Super smooth, strength creeps up on you.
