E.P. Carrillo began the Short Run series in 2010, with the limited-edition cigars being nearly as old as the company itself. The cigars were rolled on an annual basis, offering a new blend with each iteration. This continued through 2016, when the line was shelved as E.P. Carrillo restructured their portfolio. When Short Run returned in 2021, the company had an all-new look, though the Short Run 2021 cigar did not... Instead, Short Run mimicked EPC's early days, going by the name Short Run Retro. This old-school look holds through the 2023 release, though the name has returned to simply E.P. Carrillo Short Run 2023. For the first time in the series, the cigars are not rolled at EPC's own Dominican factory, instead being handled by the Oscar Valladares facility in Honduras. The cigars feature an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, a Nicaraguan binder, and fillers from Nicaragua and Honduras.
