The Year of the Duque cigar marked the first release in Dunbarton's spoof series that sets its sights on the increasing number of Chinese zodiac-themed cigars throughout the industry. In place of the usual zodiac symbol, the cigars are named after notable individuals throughout the cigar industry. The first release is the Year of the Duque, named for Chris Duque, who's frequently volunteered for Dunbarton during trade shows, events, and more over the years. Taking Chris' input on size and blend style, company owner, Steve Saka, blended a 5" x 48 robusto, featuring an Ecuadorian Habano rosado wrapper, a Mexican San Andrés negro binder, and fillers from Nicaragua and Pennsylvania. The project featured red and gold upscale packaging—similar to the vibe from other zodiac releases—being limited to 2,000 boxes of 14 cigars.
