I don’t rave about cigars often, but I’m pleasantly surprised by this random Kristoff San Andrés 660 that’s been hiding out in my humidor a few months. It’s beautifully constructed and super smooth, with earthy nuttiness that rivals some of the better cigars I’ve ever had. It brings Nicaragua, Ecuador, and Mexico together in its elements and will now be an on-hand staple in my cache.

I’m a skeptic when it comes to hype, but the My Father Blue surprised me enough it warrants more comment than a simple “nice stick.” I know many are interested in this recent My Father release, so I hope my amateur assessment is helpful.

Over the course of an hour this evening as I did “professor stuff” preparing for a new semester starting tomorrow, I truly enjoyed this first Blue experience.

From the start, it showed off impeccable quality — firm ash to the second band, easy draw, and it stayed lit without effort.

Flavor-wise, the pepper on the light isn’t biting, just enough to notice before it smooths into cocoa, subtle coffee, and a little cedar and nuttiness as it burns. The heft and balance of the stick in my hand even had me making Tim the Tool Man noises.

Previously, I’ve named The Judge my favorite from My Father, but the Blue stands right beside it and maybe even nudges slightly ahead. For a guy who usually runs from hype, I’ve got to say, this one chased me down and won.

I cannot recommend it enough.

I didn’t know what to expect from this one and was pleasantly surprised. It came as an offering in a dirt-cheap promo sampler, and it was a good find. The construction, draw, burn (aside from a couple of touch ups), and flavor are all quality well beyond it’s price point. It’s earthy and smooth, not unlike a Roma Craft stick, with subtle fragrant, almost honey notes underneath. Give it a try.
