Flavor Odyssey – Orange Maple Penicillin
Flavor Odyssey’s segment on emerging trends in cocktails continues, and this week, we explore a modern take on a somewhat modern cocktail. The Penicillin cocktail was invented in 2005, but we’re amping it up with maple syrup! On paper, this sounds like a perfect cigar pairing, and your hosts Robby and Randy dive head-first into the complex recipe.
Orange Maple Penicillin
Ingredients
- 1 orange slice
- 3 slices of fresh ginger
- ¾ ounce pure maple syrup
- 1 ounce blended Scotch whisky
- ¼ ounce smoky Islay single-malt Scotch whisky
- 1 ounce maple bourbon
- ¾ ounce fresh lemon juice
- Ice
- Orange peel for garnish
Instructions
- In a cocktail shaker, muddle the orange slice, ginger, and the maple syrup.
- Add the blended Scotch, single malt Scotch, maple bourbon, and lemon juice.
- Add the ice and shake to chill.
- Strain into an old-fashioned glass filled with ice. Garnish with the orange peel.
