Topper Cigar Company, established in 1894, is renowned for its tradition of producing high-quality, hand-crafted cigars. Continuously operating for over 130 years, Topper is the oldest family-owned cigar company in the US (although there is some debate on this, as the company had long claimed to be established in 1896, which would make them the second oldest in the US). Established by B.P. Topper in McSherrystown, Pennsylvania, Topper cigars were originally made by hand, featuring Cuban filler and Broadleaf wrappers. The company switched to machine-made cigars in the '60s, and eventually pivoted back to hand-made offerings in 2013, moving production to third-party facilities in the Dominican Republic. Over the years, one of their most consistent features has remained the use of Broadleaf tobaccos throughout the majority of their blends.
