El Maestro Cigars is run by William Ventura, who worked as a production manager for Davidoff for years before venturing off on his own. Ventura setup the fan-favorite Tabacalera William Ventura factory in the DR, later stepping back to allow his sons to take the reins. However, cigar makers can only stay out of the factory for so long, and Ventura opened up the El Maestro facility in Tamboril, Dominican Republic. El Maestro is Spanish for The Teacher, and is also the Cuban term for the master blender of the factory.
