Esteban Carreras followed up the Taken From The Devil’s Hand cigar in 2023 with the Maduro-wrapped complimentary blend: Taken From The Devil's Hand Corojo Maduro. As the story goes, Gonzalo Puentes once worked for Cuba's Ministry of Agriculture, and was tasked with developing superior Corojo seeds. Instead, he and his colleagues delivered to Cuba the inferior seeds, smuggling the better product out of the country. Thus, such Corojo was taken from the devil's (i.e. Fidel Castro) hand. Gonzalo Puentes now runs Esteban Carreras’ factory in Nicaragua, and his prized Corojo has been used as the wrapper ingredient on the brand's Taken From The Devil's Hand line. With the Maduro version, the Corojo leaves were fermented longer and at a low temperature in order to bring out a darker profile. The prized Corojo wrapper ingredient was grown in Ecuador, and surrounds a double binder from Nicaragua (Estelí and Jalapa) and all-Nicaraguan filler from Condega, Nicaragua.
